{"id":1776,"date":"2013-01-01T20:43:41","date_gmt":"2013-01-01T20:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michaelcrane.net\/wp\/2013\/01\/01\/all-we-need-is-some-ice-cream-and-a-hug\/"},"modified":"2013-01-01T20:43:41","modified_gmt":"2013-01-01T20:43:41","slug":"all-we-need-is-some-ice-cream-and-a-hug","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelcrane.net\/wp\/all-we-need-is-some-ice-cream-and-a-hug\/","title":{"rendered":"all we need is some ice cream and a hug"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year to everyone! \u00a0I hope you had a wonderful celebration bringing in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Now, first up, I&#8217;ve talked about this before with some friends, and we all still have a problem believing that it&#8217;s a thing. \u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/slog.thestranger.com\/slog\/archives\/2012\/12\/20\/robbery-at-the-strategic-maple-syrup-reserve\">Strategic Maple Syrup Reserve was robbed of $18 million worth of syrup<\/a>. \u00a0Go ahead and read that a few times and just let your mind be blown. \u00a0Only in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The NYT has a great, long-form piece about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/projects\/2012\/snow-fall\/#\/?part=tunnel-creek\">avalanche at Tunnel Creek<\/a>. \u00a0It&#8217;s a great story, and the way it is presented is just amazing as well. \u00a0Some people are saying the ads break it up too much, but I didn&#8217;t find them that intrusive, honestly.<\/p>\n<p>The gun control debate (hopefully) continues. \u00a0I don&#8217;t agree with the NRA&#8217;s idea of putting armed guards in schools (there&#8217;s also no evidence that that would work, case in point, the fact that <a href=\"http:\/\/slog.thestranger.com\/slog\/archives\/2012\/12\/22\/columbine-had-a-police-officer-virginia-tech-has-a-police-department-fort-hood-is-a-military-base\">everyone at Fort Hood had access to guns and the massacre still happened, the police department at Virginia Tech and the armed guards at Columbine<\/a>). \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/slog.thestranger.com\/slog\/archives\/2012\/12\/21\/gold-star-comment-of-the-day\">But here&#8217;s a new angle I never thought of<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1775\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelcrane.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/www.thestranger.com_binary_507d_1356133386-treacle_comment.jpg\" border=\"0\" width=\"413\" height=\"163\" srcset=\"https:\/\/michaelcrane.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/www.thestranger.com_binary_507d_1356133386-treacle_comment.jpg 413w, https:\/\/michaelcrane.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/www.thestranger.com_binary_507d_1356133386-treacle_comment-300x118.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 413px) 100vw, 413px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And as always, <a href=\"http:\/\/maddowblog.msnbc.com\/_news\/2012\/12\/26\/16165183-dont-blame-video-games\">violent video games aren&#8217;t to blame<\/a>. \u00a0Otherwise we&#8217;d have a much, much larger problem.<\/p>\n<p>And this is scary, the Los Angeles gun buy back program produced <a href=\"http:\/\/goodmenproject.com\/good-feed-blog\/los-angeles-gun-buy-back-program-turns-up-two-rocket-launchers\/?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=los-angeles-gun-buy-back-program-turns-up-two-rocket-launchers\">two rocket launchers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s it for right now, but I&#8217;ll be back with more soon, have a great one!<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian and Information is Beautiful teamed up to look at that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/news\/datablog\/2012\/dec\/19\/mayan-apocalypse-info-beautiful-skeptics-believers\">data for the end of the world<\/a>, which, in case you weren&#8217;t aware, didn&#8217;t happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year to everyone! \u00a0I hope you had a wonderful celebration bringing in 2013.
