Today's Mighty Oak

Dungeons & Drag Queens

A fundraiser benefiting The Trevor Project, friends who run the Parkstop Podcast asked me to DM a live-streamed game for Pride Month!

The Story

The city of Pridefast has been overrun by a mysterious cult. Lady Edith Wunderbred sends word to the players that she needs help restoring the city to its fabulous glory.

Donations

As part of the Parkstop Podcast’s month-long Stop Hate fundraiser, fans could donate money to give the players rerolls and various magic items. During the stream, donations were accepted to add monsters to encounters, provide rerolls, and other player benefits.

In all, the stream brought in over $1,600!

Behind the scenes

I need to give a huge shoutout to Matt Baume, the creator of Queens of Adventure, an actual-play podcast featuring a cast of Drag Queens.  He graciously gave us permission to use some of his materials and I incorporated it into the story.  Make sure to check him out, including his brand new book, “Hi Honey, I’m Homo,” which traces how subversive queer comedy transformed the American sitcom.

Other material in this adventure came from or is based on Heroic Maps, available on Patreon, a map by ‘gobildegook’ from the the Dungeon Alchemist community creations on Steam, and “The Rainbow Spellbook” by Alexander R. Baguley available on DMsGuild.

A big shout-out to my playtesters, Hulgan’s Heroes; thank you so much for taking a break from the Feywild to help me get this ready!

This was my first time streaming, and coordinating a group of players from around the world (both U.S. coasts and England). I was incredibly honored to be asked to do this, and had a great time!
