Today's Mighty Oak

I’m working on getting more pictures up, including my massive collection from URU, so hopefully those will be up sometime in the foreseeable future.  But of course, probably not!

Did you know there are still tea parties going on?  I didn’t.  And apparantly there will be one on Wednesday at Boyce Park, at the ski lodge.  Good lord.

A new book is coming out, entitled Secular Sabotage: How Liberals are Destroying Religion and Culture in America.  Fair enough.  However, as this article at Slog points out, I feel that someone is about to lose their job, since this quote appears on the dust jacket:

“Wake up, America! The secular minority has cut the brake cables on America’s In-God-We-Trust-Mobile™! Not even all 43 of our Christian presidents can save us now.” — Stephen Colbert, host of “The Colbert Report”

That makes me very happy.

Former Catholic bishop of Pittsburgh and now Archbishop of Washington, D.C. (which, I don’t think I knew there were such things as Archbishop…it’s a very impressive title) is on the crusade to stop marriage equality.  Which is nothing new from the Catholic Church, although I do have to say, the picture of him is a bit scary.

And in support of marriage equality comes this video from Ireland:

Which is very well put together, although I do have to confess, I can’t tell if Irish names are male or female most of the time.  Not that it matters, but to a dumb American like me, I feel like I’m missing at least something.  Oh well, moving on.

If you want to read the first chapter of the first of three parts of book 12 of the Wheel of Time (whew!), check out this post at Dragonmount.  The prologue will be available later for purchase as an e-book.  An interesting choice.  While Robert Jordan was alive, it was customary to  release the prologue before the book was released.  Interesting to see the change, I wonder if we’ll ever find out if it was deemed successful or not.

A new commercial is out there for the movie 9.  I can’t find it on youtube or else I’d post it here, but I am very excited for it.  If you want to see the short film it is based on, I’ll put that below.

That’s it for now, back to image editing for me!  Happy Labor Day!

A trailer for Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day has been released. The rumor was that we would never see this movie since William Dafoe (I have no idea if I spelled that correctly) wanted too much money. He’s not in the trailer. I still half expect to see him in some sort of cameo though. Either way, here it is:

All kinds of fun things going on, so let me geek out for just a bit here.

Season three of The Guild premiered today:

I’ve never been a huge fan of Twitter, although I can concede that it has its uses.  However, I do like the idea behind Woofer.  Where your messages have a 1,400 character minimum.  Hehehe.

What do you do if you want to buy a video game (which is smashing all kinds of sales records), but the creator/writer is a bigot?  Well, you talk about it, then decide if that $20 will really make a difference.  Make sure to read the comments too, a good discussion of free speech and how it pertains was going on.

Construction has begun on The Shard, a new skyscraper in London:

It is an artists rendering, so it should, but it just reminds me of some sort of concept art for some huge budget movie.

And now that September is finally upon us, that means….it’s almost time for Hockey season again!  Oh yeah, and football.  Either way, check out this fairly good (if not overly-dramatic) movie.

That’s it for now, catch everyone later!

Just some quick Dollhouse news for everyone, it was reported that Summer Glau will come to the Dollhouse in a recurring role.  As excited as I am, we all kind of saw this coming, but hey, it’s good news for the show.

I went to the casino last night, which was wonderful, I’ll probably be writing about it over at Pittsburgh Metblogs, but suffice to say I did get to play the Star Wars slot machine!

Speaking of Star Wars, I’m flying through the new Fate of the Jedi series.  It’s strange, I’ll actually be up to date in the Star Wars universe, that never happens!

Alright, I’m off to clean and hopefully just relax for a little bit, have a great one!

Two big pieces of news, neither of which have anything directly to do with me.  First, tomorrow, Dan Savage is filming the pilot for his new show, aptly named “Savage Love.”  I hope it works out well and gets picked up, and I hope that I have some way of watching it.

And secondly, I don’t understand it, I’ve just moments ago heard about it, but Cyan is working on a new game, slated to come out sometime this fall!  It is an online version of MagiQuest, which is some sort of real life running around through a revamped hotel quest…thingy.  Like I said, I don’t quite understand it, but it’s very excited for Cyan!  The online game looks a lot like URU and End of Ages (surprise, surprise) but with it’s own medieval twist.  Anyway, I’m sure we’ll be giving it lots of coverage over at URU Obsession, so make sure to check it out, if you’re interested…or a dork like me.

Also, I would like to interject that I feel this is part of what Latus was supposed to be, not all of it, but part of it.  I’d like to discuss that more, but I’m really tired, so I feel like I wouldn’t give my ideas any kind of justice, so I’ll save that for another day.

Anyway, that’s it for me, catch everyone later!

It’s been a crazy couple days, doing all kinds of cleaning, unpacking and even more cleaning.  I’ve also been slowly ripping a good portion of my CDs and putting the music onto my Zune.  It’s been taking longer than I thought it would, but then again, I have more music than I remember!

Check out this really cool music video, I’ve never heard of the song or the artist, but I really like the art style:

Two Weeks – Grizzly Bear from Gabe Askew on Vimeo.

I started reading the new Star Wars series, “Fate of the Jedi.”  I flew through the first one, and just picked up the second one, I think the third one comes out pretty soon, but most of the rest won’t come out until next year.  The strange thing is that all of the books are coming out in Hardcover.  For whatever reason, Star Wars books have this awful way of being published where the more important ones come out in Hardback (and then a year later in paperback), and the rest in paperback.  This was not a problem, but an annoyance, especially during The New Jedi Order since it was such a long series.

I do realize I’m a dork.  Just so you know.  But I’ll stop.  For now.

Patrick, DC Metblog’s captain, has an awesome entry on his blog about his circles of friends, and the reading of his blog.  A lot of it I think applies to my own friends as well, although I would add that I always find it strange when one of my friends talks about what I wrote.  One, because I never expect them to read my blog, and secondly, because like Patrick, I keep my blog primarily as a record for myself.  But I am thankful to my readers, I am.  I would like to find out a way to somehow automatically port comments from facebook over to my blog.  I don’t know if that is possible, but I’ll start to do some research for that.

Ok, I think that’s it for now.  I’ll be ramping up Pittsburgh Metblogs as we get ready for the G20, but until then, I’ll catch everyone later, have a great one!

I came across this video from the fall show “Glee.”  It looks decent, but the more I dig into it, the more I think I’m not going to like it.  But anyway, enjoy the video:

I do promise to get back to my normal titles soon enough (read: random quotes from my quote files that usually don’t have anything to do with the post), but first, I would like to draw your attention to The Guild, and in the hiatus before Season 3, their new music video (directed by Jed Whedon):

Well, I’m back.  Still not unpacked, but back, and getting things cleaned, so it’s a start.  Anyway, tomorrow (Saturday) is the 4th Annual Start of Summer Picnic.  Come on by, we’ll have lunch, dinner, boccie, lawn darts, drinks and all kinds of goodness.  Bring a side or a dessert if you’d like to share and come on around back, we’ll be there all night.

Mika’s new album (The Boy Who Knew Too Much) comes out this fall, here is the music video for the first single “We Are Golden,”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuKBY_ZVIAE

I’m not a huge fan of the video, although I do like the part with the yellow comforter.  I do like the song a lot though.  I typically like rock/pop songs that have full orchestration, but this time, it’s the choir that drew me to this song.

That’s it for now, I have to do some shopping for the picnic, and of course, more cleaning.  Have a great one!

Well, here we are at the end of things.  Half a week of program and then shut down.  Things are of course crazy, but we keep moving forward.  I’m working on the closing staff slideshow and will be here for a while tonight most likely, but I’ll just turn on some music on my mp3 player and keep working.

I’m moving tonight out of Pathfinder and into the Infirmary, so I’ll be very close to work, which is both good and bad.  Most of my stuff is packed up already, just a few things to grab.  Most other people who are moving have been doing their packing during the day, but I don’t have that luxury of course.

But soon enough I’ll be home, have a chance to sort through my e-mails, take a nap, and relax for a bit, which I’m looking forward to.  Of course it’s beautiful up here, and the people are (generally) great, and it really is a nice change from the office, but I’m ready to go home.  And catch up on my reading.  And movies.  I’m really behind on most things, really.

That’s it for now, I probably won’t have a chance to check in again before I go home, but I’ll try.  Until then, have a great one!
