Today's Mighty Oak

Real short update today, first up, did you know that the statues on Easter Island are probably entire bodies?  I had no idea!

And lastly, got this from Clintus.  And Darth Vader would totally win:

Alright, here we go again:

Couple newspaper updates.  First, McSweeney declares that the newspaper is the best e-Reader, bendable paper-thin screens have been invented and the Chicago Tribune tries their hand at a special, long-form intensive edition for Sundays.  Kind of like the early news websites.

Celebrities talk with IGN about their favorite Star Wars characters.

Click here to watch 35 movies in 2 minutes, pretty awesome.

Check out the second part of the strangest sights in Google Earth.  I’m surprised more companies haven’t followed the lead of number six.

I can’t add anything to this:

And, there’s a twin site to Stonehenge.

Wikileaks has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.  How awesome would it be if it won?  I can only hope.

Buzzfeed has a list of Darth Vader doing strange things (at least, strange for the Dark Lord of the Sith), this may be my favorite:

And here is what Star Wars would look like if it was drawn by Dr. Seuss.

Warning, this will overdose you on cuteness:

And following that explosion of cuteness, this made me so incredibly proud.

I was never a huge fan of Groundhog Day, but maybe I wasn’t old enough when I first saw it.  But anyway, here’s a bunch of estimations about how much time actually takes place.

What would it look like if the entire population of the world moved together to a density like many cities:

I find this strangely funny, I think mostly because of the kid’s reactions:

And as a follow up to that, Newt Gingrich tries to defend his view of marriage.  And the response:

Gingrich would like to remind everybody that that marriage is between one man and one woman whom you abandon riddled with cancer on her hospital bed while you fuck the shit out of your mistress whom you later marry and cheat on with a third woman while screaming with Godly moral outrage about the infidelities of the president.

Bill Gates talks about this latest endeavor, eradicating polio around the world.  My favorite quote however, is where he states the vaccine-autism link is an ‘absolute lie.’  I’ve never really listened to him speak for that long, but he is very well spoken.  Maybe not as good as Steve Jobs, but better than what I had perceived he would be.  Anyway, here’s the clip:

And lastly today, this is scary first, because of the oppression of expression (and bloggers) and two, because it is a reality that in some areas, certain ethnic groups have limited rights.

Another update for everyone, but first some quick site news.  I tried installing an extension that will work with GoodReads, but so far, it has not worked yet.  I’ll keep working on it, see if I c an get it to work.  Also, Joomla 1.6 was just released, I’ll probably be upgrading sometime in the next month or so.  It will probably take me a little bit to get everything back to normal, so the site will probably be down for a weekend or so.

Would you like to play the first Super Mario Bros. as Link, or Samus, or Mega Man?  Check it out here.

Here’s some retro/cold war style video game posters, I like this one a lot:

Is there really an Olive Garden cooking school in Tuscany?  Click through to find out

Darth Vader had a couple bloopers when he recorded his voice for Tom Tom GPS:

The Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co. is closed, but will reopen on February 1.  Can’t wait!

Cool, if gruesome ads from Copyranter about not talking on your cellphone as you drive, as well as ads for an independent film festival (also gross, but I find it kind of funny).  Copyranter also takes on the hypocrisy of plastic water bottles, and some awesome condom ads.

And finally, here’s some commentary about the wrappers at Burger King.

That’s it for now, but I should be back again soon with more, have a great one!

Okay, back for some more clearinghouse items.

Check out this awesome article about the two ATMs that are in Antarctica.  Pretty awesome.

Here’s two recut trailers for you.  First, Seinfeld as a thriller movie:

And Arrested Development as an action movie:

This is something I feel that my friends would do, and I kind of love it, as it reminds me of Kingdom of Loathing.  Ladies and gentleman, the Baby Seal pinata:

Did you know that Jerry Springer ran for governor?  I didn’t, and this is an awesome ad:

This has been floating around for a bit now, but I have to ask.  A blue cape?  Really?

In case you hadn’t noticed, YouTube has been blocked in part of Russia.  Bad Russia!

I wonder what they would say about this (Republicans blocked the passage of a bill that would extend benefits to emergency personnel from September 11th):

Also, if Weiner would run with Grayson from Florida, I honestly don’t know what I would do, I would just move and work on their campaign for free.

The FDA just approved Stem Cell trials, which is pretty awesome, I can’t wait to see what will come out of this.

Is it possible to embed Facebook videos?  If it is, I can’t figure it out.  Anyway, check out a rare moment of downtime in the Keystone office.

This story has been floating around, and That’s Church has been covering it as well, but it’s still funny: Kings of Leon cancel show after being pooped on by pigeons.

And finally, I have to disagree with this article, Dollhouse figured it out by using Active Architecture.  And then by not needing that Architecture.  Maybe I’ll just stay in denial, that sounds like a good idea.
