Today's Mighty Oak

Alright, two pieces of video game news.  The first, URU is now going to be released as open source software!  This means a return to The Cavern, fan-written Ages, and who knows what else.  Hopefully the guilds can keep things moving and everyone on task, and we can see where we go.  Hopefully we get some kind of guidance from Cyan, at least about Ae’gura and the City Proper.

Second, a group from the PA Legislature concluded a study (three years I believe) and basically said that the current gaming regulatsions (ESRB) are good, and no more should be enacted.  Ok parents, take some iniative, and find out what you’re buying your kids before you shell out the money, be a parent, and we’ll all be fine.  Also, good job PA!

In a previous post, I promised to talk about some of the podcasts I’ve been listening to lately, here’s what I have feeding into my iTunes (becasue for whatever reason, Windows Media Player still doesn’t support podcasts):

Distorted View Daily
IGN’s voice chat
Jim and Randy will talk to anybody – weekly rundown of the headlines at Carbolic Smoke Ball
The Onion (audio)
The Onion (video)
Pittsburgh here and now: Tech Talk (from the Post-Gazette)
President Elect Obama’s weekly radio address
President Elect Obama’s weekly youtube address
Slate explainer
Slate political gabfest
Slate culture gabfest

And the couple ‘hit or miss’ ones, where I decide each episode to download or not:
Slate’s bookclub
Slate V
Slate daily podcast

I was out at SVC’s Christmas party last night, which was awesome.  It was in the Fred Roger’s Center, which is beautiful!  Also, I know someone who helped build it, so that made it extra awesome!

That’s about it for now, I finished my Christmas shopping and now just have a few left to wrap.  Have a great one everybody!

Couple cool things for everyone:

The continuing creep of advertising continues.  Apparently teachers are now selling ad space on quizzes, test and finals.  Note to all my teacher friends…call me.  We’ll make a bundle!

Sam and Max season two is coming!

Here is the latest video from CubeNews1, their holiday gift guide. It’s fun, dorky humor, I’m actually subscribed to their stuff on youtube, so check it out.

Also, I have recently discovered that my mp3 player will play videos (if I convert them), so I updated iTunes and headed to the store to check out the podcasts.  I found a bunch from Slate and some from the Post Gazette that I’m really enjoying!  I’ll get a list together and post it soon!

That’s it for now, short update, but I’ll be back with more soon!
