Washington state has marriage equality on the ballot this November. This is heartbreaking:
Tears begin rolling down my cheek and I realize I can’t do this. I also happened to be the only gay person (which I find rather shameful) at this phone bank. I wanted to leave early but after I calmed down from my not so short meltdown, I was given the job of calling other supportive people
Slog wrote it up here and here imploring for help, and it’s great to see everyone step up.
It’s a sad state when we have to fight for our basic civil rights, but it’s nice to see help from the majority, without which, no minority would have the civil rights we deserve.
Remember how the republicans have been shouting from the rooftops about voter fraud? And remember how those who fight against something the most are normally committing it themselves? Yeah, republicans are committing more voter fraud.
The big Seattle newspaper is giving away free political advertising, but only to one party. They are stating it is to prove how effective their advertising is, so they can gain more business in the future. Kind of strange, and throwing objectivity out the window. Now, to be fair, they can throw it out the window, but then they can’t go back and claim to not have a bias. Anyway, a good portion of their writers have signed on to a letter, saying the policy affects their journalistic integrity.
Ben Stein went on Fox news and told them that to fix the economy we have to tax the wealthy. Also, I had no idea he didn’t believe in evolution. Guess he isn’t as smart as I thought.
This has been floating around, a great response (from a fake CEO) about maxi pad commercials:
Marriage equality is on the ballot in four states (and I have friends in each one of those states), so here’s a reminder: instead of you know, helping the poor, as Jesus said, the Knights of Columbus spent over 15 million dollars fighting equality. Guess you didn’t really need to help the sick either:
Alright, let’s see what we have for today, first up, a new version of Sim City:
The Great Barrier Reef is losing massive amounts of coral, partly because of climate change, but also because of the increase of a certain type of starfish, much like the reefs in the Caribbean are being ravaged by the invasive lionfish.
Now that I’m no longer working for the BSA, I’ve decided to share some sought-after information. There are some who will find this particularly interesting and others that won’t. But still, it will be fun.
I spoke about this earlier, but I think this will be the way to change the BSA’s policies, at least combined with showing that embracing equality would provide a net gain of membership, and thankfully, more companies are being pressured to drop their financial support for the BSA.
It’s absolutely horrible, but this new push is because of the recent denial of a gay Scout’s Scoutmaster approval to finish his Eagle (which would then have gone to a Board of Review, but you still need the Scoutmaster approval first), but these kinds of incidents, keeps the BSA in the news.
And this is part of the strategy used to defeat DADT, keeping it in the news, and in the forefront of the country’s mind. it is sad to see, but the BSA does need exposed for the hate they spit at the youth members as well.
“My team had 118 guys on the football team. Every single one of them wanted to come find some private time with me to ask how I was doing and let me know that they were okay with it,”
So great to hear, and makes me hopeful for the future.
I”ll be interested to see what kind of progress he can make in Harrisburg, hopefully he doesn’t get too bogged down by the nasty politics of the state.
