This is what annoyed me about college, especially freshmen year.  Students who didn’t know how to live away from home.  Apparently, now it’s even worse with students paying for disposable sheets, cleaning services and deliveries of snacks.

This is just shameful: remember a few weeks ago Romney had a rally in Ohio that was attended by “enthusiastic” coal miners?  They were forced to attend by their employer, and not paid for that day, either.

Also in somewhat political news, a delegate (from PA, sadly) at the RNC was offended that a Mexican immigrant was working at the America station in Epcot.  Sigh.

Let’s see what we have, first up:

Lifehacker has a cool post up about using paper bags as a floor covering.  I also like the idea in the comments about adding old maps mixed it.

They also cover how to make an emergency bracelet that conceals fishing equipment.  A nice hack on something very trendy right now.

Alright, another update, let’s see what I have tonight for you.  First up, like this post.  Get it:

All of the books from The Royal Tenenbaums have been compiled.  Pretty awesome.

Apartment Therapy has a couple of old computers turned into coffee tables.  I like the one with the orange coil in the middle.

It’s almost time for the next season of American Horror Story, I’m super excited, and here’s one of the trailers:

This is astounding.  David Foster Wallace (and other authors) have left the word notes in the thesaurus on Macs.  Really neat, and a little sad in the case of DFW.

This is so meta, I don’t even know what to say, apparently 160 years of maps of hurricanes, makes a giant, globe-consuming hurricane pattern.

Been a while, and I have a lot to share, so let’s get going.  First up, this has been floating around, and it’s been overdone, but this time, it’s at my alma mater:

Fun fact, the Steelers are the only football team to have a training camp day for those with special needs.  Shame on all the other teams!

After years of waiting, and hunting for a copy that wouldn’t put me in the poor house, The 50 Year Sword is being reprinted in America and the cover was just revealed in io9:

I’m really hoping that Yinztagram comes to Android.  I would totally add Rick Sebak to just about every picture ever.

Here are some awe-inspiring (in a bad way) of the interior of Monsour Medical Building, which I pass all the time going to SVC.

This is amusing:

An artist has used thousands of CDs to create amazing works of art.  Makes my coathanger and AOL CD suncatchers look like child’s play…since they were.

This is a really cool table, although I don’t know how much it costs, but I’m guessing it’s really expensive.

Act Classy took the ruined Jesus Fresco and showed his whole life.  Funny, because all we can do is laugh about the situation.

Quick update for everyone, let’s see what we have today.

Quick update for everyone, hopefully I’ll be back with more soon.  First up, get ready for Bowtie Tuesdays, returning in September!  So for now, learn how to tie a bowtie with Bill Nye:

Apartment Therapy goes over how to disguise video games on a book shelf.  Seems like a lot of work, but I guess if you’re going for a certain look, go for it.

Yes, children should do their chores regardless, but I like this:

Man Made has a cool post up about using a sprinkler and paint to cover surfaces.  I imagine it gets clogged pretty quick, but still kind of cool.

BuzzFeed features two bizarre ads for a Philadelphia ice cream company.  The best comment, “IT PUTS THE ICE CREAM ON ITS SKIN OR ELSE IT GETS THE HOSE AGAIN”

A hotel in England has replaced the Bibles in the rooms with…50 Shades of Grey.  An ingenious marketing stunt, I do have to say.

And Brandon Sanderson announced that he finished the final book (book 14) of The Wheel of Time.  There are still edits to do, but those will mostly be done by others.  It’s a great series, although I got distracted while in book 9, so I’ll be going back to get caught up.  I’m not sure what the status is of the rumored prequels and off shoots (three prequels and two off shoot trilogies), but I’m not really holding my breath.  Here’s the cover, and aside from “The Fires of Heaven,” it’s probably my favorite title in the series:
