Today's Mighty Oak

Alright, let’s see what we have today.  First up, check out Mars in 3-D (if you have the glasses)!

Amazing images of the crumbling mansions of drug lords:

This Advertising Life has a great post, that makes me laugh, every time I see it.

BuzzFeed shows you how to say goodbye to your coworkers.  By the way, I did not do this.

Awesome new iPhone app, it turns your phone into a light to make it safer to bike at night:

This is cool, a wall of animated blocks.

A fun concept mirror for graphic designers:

The Walkabout looks at the 6% experiment, pretty cool to read about.

If you read nothing else political today, read this very short story.  And learn who the real job creators are, and how to distract from that fact.

That’s it for now, but I’ll be back soon!

Let’s see what I have today.  First up, the track sampler of Mika’s new album:

If you haven’t donated yet, there is still time to donate to help build a Tesla museum.

ManMadeDIY has an awesome post of funny WiFi network names (click through for more):

Pretty ingenious, although I’m sure it will be obsolete (I’m hoping to be able to record a hologram of myself), QR codes on gravestones.

A fun beer commercial:

And my favorite post from This Advertising Life this week!

That’s it for now, have a great one!

Alright, let’s see what I have today.  First up, fun WTF posters:

This is what annoyed me about college, especially freshmen year.  Students who didn’t know how to live away from home.  Apparently, now it’s even worse with students paying for disposable sheets, cleaning services and deliveries of snacks.

Beer-drinking chart:

Internet Addiction may be linked to the same gene that makes one more susceptible to nicotine addiction.

Awesome accidental photos from Google street view.

A primer on how to ride the subway:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_duJUp9emY

A vial of John Paul II’s blood was stolen and then recovered. Creepy.

A schism in atheism?  Never thought I’d hear of that.

The Ohio Art company is once again cashing in on the Etch-a-sketch, and I don’t blame them at all:

The richest women in the world thinks that those who are poor are just lazy and should work harder.  Like her, you know, since she inherited $30 billion from her father.  You know, hard work.

This is just shameful: remember a few weeks ago Romney had a rally in Ohio that was attended by “enthusiastic” coal miners?  They were forced to attend by their employer, and not paid for that day, either.

Also in somewhat political news, a delegate (from PA, sadly) at the RNC was offended that a Mexican immigrant was working at the America station in Epcot.  Sigh.

And the reaction shot from the White House to #Eastwooding:

That’s it for now, have a great one!

Note: This was mislabeled and unpublished from the back-end of the website, sorry about that!

Alright, let’s see what I have this time.  First up, some amazing ads from Greenpeace:

ABC has ordered a S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot, to be written by Joss Whedon, which is so incredible to hear!  But don’t worry, Captain Hammer is ready to help!

It’s funny and cute:

Sadly, a lot of Facebook Brand pages look like this.

If you’ve ever wondered what the layout to the apartments from The Big Bang Theory are, here they are (although I can’t imagine an actual building would have these kind of layouts, they strangely work well for TV:

What if a t-rex fought in WWII?  Find out here.

That’s it for now, but I’ll be back soon!

So many points to a great volunteer who had today’s title on his facebook earlier this week.

Let’s see what we have, first up:

Lifehacker has a cool post up about using paper bags as a floor covering.  I also like the idea in the comments about adding old maps mixed it.

They also cover how to make an emergency bracelet that conceals fishing equipment.  A nice hack on something very trendy right now.

Thank you, Bill Nye:

Kind of like the meme of placing photos in their real world space, this does the same with album covers, pretty cool.

This is so very, very true:

Wow, image heavy post today, but here’s one more for you:

That’s it for now, have a great one!

One of my favorite sites, the Good Men Project absolutely hits it out of the park with an awesome article.

Two quotes:

You’re not waiting in line 20 minutes for waffle fries to make a point about free speech, or you’d be just as quick to defend the speech of someone you disagree with, like me. You’re showing your “appreciation” for Chick-Fil-A because “I hate gay people” is so unpleasant to utter aloud. It’s much easier to say, “I’m going to eat this chicken sandwich.” Right now, appreciating Chick-Fil-A is the safest form of homophobia there is. No wonder so many people are flocking to their restaurants. And if anyone gets offended, you can plead innocent.  “What?  I don’t hate gay people. I just like fill-in-the-blank [breast tenders, religious tolerance, the First Amendment].”

If that’s your argument, then at the very best you’re kidding yourself. Let me make it perfectly clear, though, that you’re not fooling me. Chick-Fil-A has donated millions of dollars to anti-gay groups and has given every indication that they will continue to do so. We’re not just talking about organizations that oppose gay marriage. These are hate groups that claim that homosexuality can be cured, that being gay is linked to child molestation and that gay people shouldn’t be allowed to raise children. You can imagine why this would be a particularly sensitive issue to me.

And the second:

I’m not saying that everyone who dines at Chick-Fil-A is a bigot or my mortal enemy. It’s possible some people go there out of convenience or necessity. Maybe it’s the only place at the mall food court their kids will eat or it’s the only drive-thru they pass on their way home every night. It could be that they work there and rely on the employee discount. I’m not going to judge everyone who patronizes the business. Life’s complicated, and we all have our own reasons for doing the things we do.

But if you’re going to eat Chick-Fil-A to make some political point, at least have the courage to be honest about the point you’re making.

You don’t like gay people.

The sky is blue.

End of discussion

Go read the whole thing here.

Submitted without comment (aside from the fact that for those unaware, Brian Brown is the current president of the leading anti-equality organization, the National Organization for Marriage, and he recently had a dinner debate with Dan Savage from which this quote comes from):

Hugh Hefner came out with this amazing quote:

“The fight for gay marriage is, in reality, a fight for all of our rights. Without it, we will turn back the sexual revolution and return to an earlier, puritanical time. Today, in every instance of sexual rights falling under attack, you’ll find legislation forced into place by people who practice discrimination disguised as religious freedom. Their goal is to dehumanize everyone’s sexuality and reduce us to using sex for the sole purpose of perpetuating our species. To that end, they will criminalize your entire sex life…This is a religious nation, but it is also a secular one. … No one should have to subjugate their religious freedom, and no one should have their personal freedoms infringed. This is America and we must protect the rights of all Americans.”

Also, on a related note, I just finished the book by Zach Wahls, and he did mention that his moms bought him a subscription to Playboy when he was in high school, with the caveat that they had to read it first (which they did once, and that was it).  Kind of strange, yet progressive.  Although I guess at the time he was growing up, with the access to the Internet, it was a good way to allow access but approve of the source.

All my best,

I think I wrote something about this before, but there were multiple organizations trying to kidnap children from gay parents. Now, turning it on its head, the mother is suing those organizations with an organized crime suit.

Interesting to read, although I don’t understand all the legalese.  I’ll be interested to see what more comes of this.

Read about it here.
