Today's Mighty Oak

More on moving in

This is the update I posted at uruobsession

Day 2:

My best friend lived in Gerry (Dorm) for the summer. He's an RA (although we call them prefects) in the freshmen dorm (St. Benedict).

So today I help him move, as he has to be out of his room by early tomorrow morning so they can clean, put down new carpet in the hallway and get it ready for the Orientation committee (which mostly live in Gerry).

So we spend the day packing and moving his things to St. Benedict.

St. Benedict is used as the media center for the Steeler's training camp (except for ESPN, they get their own building when they come). If you ever see reports from training camp or press conferences those are happending either inside our (most likely) outside St. Benedict Hall (in fact, some news reporters will say "Live from St. Benedict Hall, this is ______")

It's 12:45 a.m. We have one last trip of things to move in. The biggest things.

The couch
The armchair (free and falling apart but really comfy)
Two floor lamps

We get to the parking lot, take out the couch. I go around to open the side door and I get stopped by some middle aged man who I've never seen before. He asked where I was going, I explained the situation and he gets mad!

He spouts off about how it is so nice and gracious of them to let the RA's move in early (if not, they get less than 24 hours and normally have to pull an all-nighter between the ending of their training and when the freshman arrive) and how we can't move in becasue people are on the 4th floor.

No one is on the fourth floor, hence he could move in early (if there were, he wouldn't be able to).

He tells us we have to come back during normal business hours…8 – 4 (these are not normal business hours, not even here on campus, which has some odd hours).

He starts dropping names, not realizing how influential I really am on this campus…(I meet regularly with the President and Vice-Chancellor, Archabbot, Dean of Students, SGA President and director of Public Relations).

It's just so frustrating….my friend and I have each paid over $100,000 to go to this school and we are treated as second class citizens becasue we aren't the Steelers.

I really do love SVC, it's just been a very stressful couple of days, and this made me feel even worse….cry.gif
