Today's Mighty Oak

I’m back from two weeks away, and back to the blog.  I’ll be posting more updates soon, as well as a short update about my trip to Maryland/Delaware, but in the meantime, enjoy all of this:

First up, a video from NASA about watching the Northern and Southern Lights from the International Space Station, absolutely beautiful!

And a really cool video from The Guardian:

Copyranter comes through with an awesome gif, a really cool interactive ad, misleading chalkboards, the truly horrifying, an ad which I like, but he doesn’t and the latest amazing cover from The New Yorker.

This also comes from Copyranter:

And here is a compilation from Better Book Titles.  I especially love their take on “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

And here is the second trailer for The Avengers:

That’s it for now, have a great one!

Another quick update for you. First up, open this link and play this song in the background for the next hour.  It’s the theme from Jurassic Park slowed down 1000 times (but kept at the same pitch)

Check out these awesome images of a “cloud tsunami

Today (or at least in ten minutes), is National Darwin Day!  Hooray!

Want to bet on the National Dog Show?  One, you probably have a gambling problem, two, Slate has you covered on who to bet on.

Want hot soup delivered to you each week (in Pittsburgh)?  City Paper profiles a new business, pretty awesome!

And finally, I’ve never heard of National Geographic’s Director of Adventure, but I want it, so I can have this office:

Just a couple things right now, first up, a trailer has been released for the next Lego Harry Potter game:

Coming out of Ohio: Amish on Amish violence: cutting beards!  Good gravy.

I’m not a huge political movie fan, but this poster looks just awesome:

Need help finding a Sci-Fi or Fantasy book?  Answer a few questions and NPR has you covered here.

That’s it for now, happy Homecoming SVC (thinking back, they’ve had awesome weather every year, which is amazing!)!

Couple quick things for everyone, more coming later.

First up, the definitive explanation of The Crown:

Hot on the heels of The Super Bowl, and really any professional sporting event:

We knew he was coming back, and here it is.  I think the fondu (which for the life of me, and spell check, I can’t write out correctly) was a nice touch:

This bottle sounds amazing, but I don’t really need any more, but maybe a reader is in the market.  Also, if you don’t read UpaDowna, it’s a fun site!

Again, Bill O’Reilly is a moron.  I can’t stress this enough.  Check out the background here, a bunch of fun photos here, including my favorite:

Did you know that The Pope can’t donate his organs?  Because that’s helpful.  Can we stop calling Catholics pro-life soon?

This looks amazing, and I kind of want to do it:

Rachel Maddow has a great post about what to do with the empty House chamber, since you know, they aren’t doing much.

If you’ve read Blink (I need to) or Tipping Point (I have), check out the Malcolm Gladwell book generator.

Check out this awesome map of good beer.  Also, poor Idaho!

And finally, my buddy Ken sent this to me, one of these days, I’ll finish Infinite Jest (after starting it probably 20 or so times).  It’s really my white whale.

Quick update for everyone.  First off, Randy Rainbow tries to save the Spiderman Musical:

Good news, Sir Ian McKellen will reprise his role as Gandalf in the upcoming Hobbit movies!

This might be the coolest idea for a soap dispenser ever:

I like that it not only saves you money and is better for the earth (no plastic containers for liquid soap that is mostly water anyway), the soap will throw off it’s scent into the air, doing double duty!

I think I’ve always known it, but music, does in fact, make you happy.  And now it’s been proven!

One more quick video (less than 20 seconds):

And lastly today, from NaNoWriMo’s blog, this may be the most awesome book store in the world.  Now I just need a passport and a lot of money to go to Buenos Aires:

That’s it for now, short update, but I’ll be back soon, have a great one!

Let’s give this a second try…(first time did not save and I lost everything).  Hey everybody!  Lots of fun links to pass on, and I’ll be updating The Great and Secret Show as well, so stay tuned for more later this weekend as well.

I’ve found a lot of old links (from a few months ago), so I’ll only be posting the relevant ones, hope you enjoy:

Sometimes life is funny.  And ironic.

I really hope the city decided to leave the chalk drawings:

I was in a conversation with a friend talking about the different names for groups of animals.  The obvious winner is a sedge of cranes.

Ever feel alone?  You got nothing on this guy!

Pittsburgh Sports and Mini Ponies is about exactly what you think, or at least their banner is.  The site is on Bloquin, so good luck trying to get it to display correctly or have a working RSS feed though.

I hate the Wesboro Baptist Church as much as anyone.  But I love that they tried to take on the San Diego Comic Con and lost, so bad (and this doesn’t even show the parade the attendees put on as a counter protest).  Strong language and logic that will make your head explode about eight times:

Here is a cool chart showing different aspects on covers of fantasy book.  I can’t embed it here, for some reason it breaks Joomla.  Sorry!

And really, at this point, you’re just showing off:

Okay, that’s it for this one, shorter update, but more to come soon!
