Today's Mighty Oak

Alright, let’s see what we have today. First up, Randy Rainbow is back with the Cell Block Tango:

The new president of Nintendo of America is named…Bowser.

A puppy gets emotional over the death of Mufasa in The Lion King.

Kim Davis must pay the victims of her bigotry, a court has ruled.

I had no idea there is a new biopic about JRR Tolkien coming out! See the trailer here.

Postmodern Jukebox takes on Pinky and the Brain.

And finally, the trailer from the Super Bowl for Avengers: Endgame:

Alright, been a bit, but let’s see what we have today.  First up, would you like the sheet music for the THX deep note?  Here it is.

In the news that has me so excited, Idris Elba is going to start in, produce and direct Netflix’s new, live-action Hunchback of Notre Dame!  Hunchback is my favorite animated Disney movie and in my top five stage musicals so I cannot wait for this!

Overwatch has partnered with You Can Play, marking that non-profits first foray into eSports!

Alone in the Game explores what it’s like to be gay or trans in sports.

Because his is where we all said we were headed: GOP congressmen want to make it legal for people to not sell houses to queer people.  Because fuck this world.

And a reminder, they’re far from perfect, but the Democrats every now and then pull out a great win when it’s needed.  In South Carolina, a clutch filibuster helped prevent an abortion ban from being passed.

A favorite web comic of mine, Surviving The World just wrapped up, but here is his last Pride comic:

The new Smash Bros. looks amazing (although I actually don’t like the art direction on the character models):

And of course, the CDC will roll back the collection of data from queer communities, which will lead to decrease in funding and more deaths from diseases that affect us more than other communities.

I’ll be talking about the Supreme Court decision in Masterpiece Cake in a later post, but this executive order from May is also really, really dangerous.  We’re quickly moving into a world where the few rights I have are being superseded by the ability for people to use their bigoted “religious views” to discriminate against me.  And yes, even if you’re using religion, it’s still bigoted.

Alright, that’s it for now, sorry for all the depressing things, but sometimes, that’s just what the world deals you.  I’ll be back with more soon!

Alright, let’s see what we have today, first up, amazing wood-carved nintendo cartridges!  That you can really play!

Two Political Junkies fixed a recent Post-Gazette headline.

Speaking of Pittsburgh, there is going to be a Mr. Rogers biopic!  I am so, so excited about this!

My favorite Super Bowl ads were from Tide:

Philadelphia Eagles flocked to a bar called ‘The Eagle’ due to its name.  Here’s a hint, if there’s a bar named ‘The Eagle,’ chances are it’s a gay leather bar.

Speaking of the Super Bowl, Deadpool live tweeted it.

And speaking of Ryan Reynolds, as much as I’m against the remake, he will be staring in the new Clue, which I think he’ll do well in.

An amazingly cute and heartwarming story of a woman who called a gay bar after her son came out to her.

The new Harry Potter movies are hiding the fact that Dumbledore is supposed to be gay, and it’s bullshit.

There is going to be a Harry Potter cruise however.

The Olympics may be over, but this video will be with us forever:

I’m calling bullshit on the ‘gay Porgs’ in Star Wars.  The fact that this is a multibillion dollar franchise so embedded into our culture and we get gay background animals if we squint and know some obscure fact, instead of actual representation is humiliating.  LucasFilm and Disney can do better.

Bermuda has rescinded their marriage equality, much like California did with Prop 8.

Trulia now shows you the rights you’ll have as a queer person when looking at homes on the market.  Our rights are a patchwork and it can be really confusing remembering what rights I have where, so this is a really nice feature, but so sad that it’s needed.

A California court has sided with an anti-gay baker.  I will remind you that this is not really about cake.  It’s about basic human dignity.  And the fact that I have to worry about what hospital and doctors I see, because they can turn me away.  It’s about the fact that funeral homes can turn loved ones away all by citing religious freedom.  It’s about bigotry.

And research has showed that acceptance of the queer community has actually dropped.  Less than half of the adults surveyed are comfortable with my existence.  Neat.

Alright, that’s it for now, go back and watch those Olympians strip down!

Alright, let’s see what we have today, first up, the new Google ear buds are going to change the world with live translations.

Stan Lee takes a stand against bigotry.

Fitz and the Tantrums’ new song is my new jam:

A touching tribute to Matthew Shepherd.

And speaking of, the politician who was saved by a married lesbian spoke at a convention dedicated to taking away her rights.

Oh hey, so did the president.  The first to do so.  He spoke at a convention that has discussed ways to pass legislation to put gay men to death.  Let that sink in.

Also in the horror show that is this administration, Jeff Sessions has rescinded protections for trans* people.

The president has also removed all mention of the queer community from the Health and Human Services department, meaning no mention of queer focused health initiatives.

And Jeff Sessions rescinded other protections for all members of the queer community.  These are things that affect people you love.  Be fucking pissed.

Okay, quick pallet cleanser.  The new trailer for Super Mario Odyssey takes the form of a Big Band musical number:

After the horrific shooting in Vegas, just a reminder that your thoughts and prayers do jack shit.  We need comprehensive gun control in this country, including a rescinding of the second amendment.

It boggles my mind that it takes something personally happening to someone for them to take action.  It is not that hard to actually think about other people and try to imagine a better world for them, as well as yourself.  But, predictably, when gun violence is close to a gun fanatic, suddenly, he realizes his mistake.  It infuriates me that it takes a tragedy like this for him to realize how wrong he is, but hey, at least he came around I guess.  I just won’t be patting him on the back for his sudden realization.

A Dutch news program takes on (with dark humor) the insanity that we live with here in the US:

Okay, the graphic designers have gotten a hold of the US map.

Speaking of graphic designers, a great SNL skit about fonts:

And if you can believe it, the man who created Papyrus, responds!

Stranger Things 2 (or the second season, not sure what to call it) looks amazing:

The president rolls back the mandate for birth control under health care, because he wants to drive up abortion rates, the cost of healhtcare and get rid of preventative medicine.  Just kidding, he’s a racist and since it is both something Obama put into place and a GOP wet-dream, it’s gone.

And I’ll just drop this here, the 10 things you need to know about Patriotism:

In good medical news, due to PrEP, there has been a huge drop in new HIV cases in England (where it was studied).

And finally, the amazing trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi:

Alright, let’s see what we have today.

First up, it’s like the Humble Bundle, but for books!  Pretty cool

For all those children of the 80s, I choose to believe that this did work, even though science says it doesn’t:

Well this is absolutely infuriating.  And so is this.  And this is so scary, and yet another reminder why we need the Affordable Care Act.

But this is awesome, the mayor of Phoenix tries to live on food stamps, to better connect with those in his city.

The Information is Beautiful awards have been announced, check them out here.

Google has unveiled google maps for the coral reefs:

Fox News and the WSJ areboth wrong about climate change.  Raise your hand if you’re surprised.  No one?

And if you haven’t seen it before, the best animal photo bomb ever:

That’s it for now, have a great one!

More things for you (and then probably just one or two more big posts like this this weekend):

Cool Russian PSA for reading:

I thought I posted about this before, but maybe I didn’t, how awesome are these pools:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7mXLqIJXHs

Now you can use a typewriter to make a painting.  Pretty awesome, but I think it would take too long and turn out being a bit pixelated (although it would be a cool style)

From Copyranter, we’ve finally found Snooki’s doppleganger:

File this under irony.  And asshatery.  Music used in an anti-piracy ad was pirated.

Also from Copyranger, this Billboard popped up here in Pa.  And I love it:

There are a lot of Nintendo characters.  Check out a mural of a ton of them here.

There is some really awesome art around the Occupy Movement.  Check it out here.  I’m a fan of this one:

Because it has to do with typesetting, I loved this issue of Gutters, go check it out.

That’s it for now, back in a bit!

A few, mostly nerdy things to catch up on.

First of all E3!  Here’s a cool recap from Nintendo, that I can’t embed.  Also are interviews about Epic Mickey, Lost in Shadow (which I first heard about from PG+) and Super Scribblenaughts.

I’m also excited about the new Zelda (Skyward Sword), Kirby’s Epic Yarn, and Metroid: Other M.  I’m somewhat excited for the new Goldeneye, and I think it’s an awesome throwback, but I was never really good at the first one, but I can see the nostalgia and potential.

I’m not a  huge fan of the new art style for Zelda, although I can appreciate that it was inspired by Monet (no, really), I think I just need to get used to it:

And here’s the trailer for Kirby:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK4gKc9OuTk

Also, how awesome is this orange(ish) 3DS:

The new Donkey Kong Country looks great, but again, not one that I’ll pick up, but here’s some info in case you’re interested.

The new Professor Layton looks awesome, although I still have to play the second in the series:

And likewise, I’m not if I’ll pick up Mario Sports mix, but it does look interesting, if a mini-game fest:

Ok, nerd mode is now off.  How about some fun news:

The Tea Party canceled their convention, or at least, pushed it back.

And The Pope can be brought to court, at least theoretically, thank goodness!

And for some brevity, Airpocalypse performed on America’s Got Talent:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lkdva4SNCcw

That’s it for now, have a great one everybody!
