Alright, let’s see what we have today. First up, the second season of Zombies, Run! was just released. I’m still working my way through their training program and season 1, but it really is an awesome way to get into running:

It’s a little trippy, and if you get motion sickness, it may not be for you, but a really cool video made from images from Google Earth. Also a great way to showcase the persistence of motion.
I don’t do this very often, but I have a flat-out product recommendation.
I was a kickstarter backer for an app called “Zombies, Run!” You may have heard of it, I finally got the chance to use it, and I can’t recommend it enough.
I’ve been using the weekends for strictly cardio at the gym, which is a nice change for me, and offers me some better people watching, so I loaded up some music and started the app.
The premise of the app is that you’re a runner for the town of Abel in a zombie-infested world, although Mission one sets it all up. You run out, collecting items the town needs and have to evade zombies. Zombies will randomly pop up each mission and you have to run faster, otherwise you have to drop an item to distract them and get away. The story is told to you between the music on your phone, and as you pick up items, you hear that over the music.
The voice acting is out of this world amazing and I’ve already become sucked into the story and the characters.
There is an “expansion” for couch to 5k, which I’ve done before, but I’d like to do it again, and it fits between missions one and two, so perfect for me.
I honestly wish I had more time at the gym during the week so I could do more missions, and I know the creators had said if it was a big enough success they would record a season two, so here’s hoping.

Zombies, Run! is available for Android, iPhone and Windows Phone (the c25k expansion is not yet available for Windows Phone, but at least in Google Play, it’s on sale for a buck right now).
Quick update for everyone, I’ll be back real soon with more, but before I lost it, I wanted to post this awesome picture. There is an iPhone app (and soon Android) called Zombies, Run, which tells the story after the zombie horde takes over and you, as a runner for the town of Abel, have to go out and collect supplies.

So up in Maine, the Republican governor was so incensed by a mural depicting the labor in his state, he had it removed (which I guess is now angering the people who put up the money for it, but that’s a legal battle for another day). First, I have to mention that one of the comments on YouTube brings up a good question, what about pajamas? But anyway, we had a group that was using the conference center that I was helping to get a quote and put together their permit for their stay. They actually split off from another group that used the same facility because the original group decided that women were in fact allowed to wear pants. As they were explaining their new name to me (so we could get all the paperwork straightened out), they were trying to pull me into the theological discussion. I quickly left under the guise of putting their check in the safe and drawing up their permit. Good gravy.

And I’m back! Big update, and another big one coming, hopefully tomorrow. I’ve been working hard on my NaNoWriMo novel, and the word counts are now working, you can follow my progress on the left side. Also, Pittsburgh is in a word-war with Sacramento and Finland. Yes, the entire country. And we’re also battling Philly, but less officially. Tracking for that is over there as well. We agreed at our write-in today that we need to take down Finland. Because it would be so satisfying to say that we won versus an entire country! Also, we learned that they only have to write 30,000 words because of how their grammar works, sentences like we use can be said in three or four words. Only fair, and a cool fact!
I watched live online the House pass their version of Health Care Reform. It was exciting, I found out that most representatives don’t know when to sit down and shut up, and generally I would not like to be in either house of Congress. I also spent a good bit of time researching on wikipedia things like Whips. All in all, a fun evening. While I don’t agree with the individual mandate and I think there are cuts for women’s health hidden in it (but I would have to check), generally, it’s a step in the right direction. Heck, just getting rid of the term “pre-existing condition” would do this country a lot of good. Well, the term, and everything associated with it, you can’t just rename it and expect it to work…you know what I mean. Good job House!
