Today's Mighty Oak

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, so we’ll see how many I can cram in here:

If you don’t read City Paper, or even if you do, make sure you check out this week’s cover article: Postcards from the Edge.

It was mentioned that there have been other research that contradicts this study, showing that having a gun brings violence instead of protecitng you from it.  But from my point of view, I’ll believe it.  (Strong language!)

Star Wars: Uncut Trailer from Casey Pugh on Vimeo.

This was leaked, but looks really cool.  Who knows when, or even if, it will be available, but Microsoft may be on to something.

Here’s a link to some cool billboards.  I really like the Run Nike board, and the TIE fighter PSP.  The sniper PSP one I think is in poor taste.

Wired Magazine tracked the seven deadly sins.  Pittsburgh tracked close to Saintly, good job!

More Billboards: Post-Mortem self-promotion through underwater billboards, genius!

Here is the Dan Brown Sequel Generator, I highly suggest it!  I may have come up with a couple invovling the Scouts, although to be more international, it should not have been the BSA, but rather International Scouting.

Turing tests have ben used to measure AI and its interaction.  Now, a Turing test is being used for video games, pretty cool stuff.

I’ve been trying to read David Foster Wallace’s “Infinite Jest” for a while now, but always get distracted.  Another one of his books is being adaped for screen, and the cast looks amazing:

I’ve been saying for years it seems that people who play Rock Band or Guitar Hero should form real bands.  Looks like I might be on to something.

Not cash for clunkers, but Certified, Pre-owned cats!

Want to be really patriotic?  Get one of these desktops from July 4th!

I hope to incorporate this someday in my house: Secret passageway behind a bookshelf!

I’m going to end it there, not becasue I’m out of links, but becasue my eyes hurt.  Have a great one!

It’s at the end of November, I’ll be scrambling to finish my NaNoWriMo novel, but I really want to go anyway.  Anyone else interested?  More details here.

Some people have been dreading this day, some have been looking forward to it, most don’t have a clue.  What is today you ask?  The day this CD arrived from Amazon (yes, I used Amazon so I could get the special edition with the DVD, stop judging):

I tend to like the live version of “Rain” better, but the studio version is also very good.  I apologize in advance to whoever will be in my car.

So, I love zombies.  I really do.  However, even I know that this blog is unnecessary.  Altough, maybe I’m looking at it wrong, maybe I should stop being so discriminatory and include the undead in the fight for equality.  I have some soul-searching to do.

Speaking of soul searching, the Vatican could use some more of it.  Because it’s ok that anywhere between 1.5% and 5% of clergy are invovled in sexual abuse, at least they aren’t the worst!  I’m just imagining (as he’s been called elsewhere and I happen to love but for different reasons) Pope Nazipants pointing at a walking-by Rabbi like the monkey in the closet from Family Guy.

Another hat tip to Joe. My. God., he posted this video which is making its rounds:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BudhFVnN2o0

I knew a lot of the videos, but certainly not all of them, probably not even half.  It’s still fun to watch and pick out favorites though.

Also from youtube, this video is spreading, and was apparantly made in only one take:

And finally today, I know that the U.S. has the same type of restrictions, but never realized that so did Canada.  I have to agree with Freeman, everyone is at risk for HIV and other diseases that would casue blood to be tainted.  Read the story here.

Whoops!  I forgot to add this: I’ll once again be participating in Blog Action Day.  Here’s the fun little promo badge.  Look for my take on climate change (since I’ve never, ever talked about it before…/sarcasm), on October 15:

That’s it for now I think.  More links and whatnot coming soon, have a great one!

Bigger update coming, including a big link update, but first, I didn’t watch the Emmy’s, but if I had, this would have been my favorite part:

Today I sat in on the Properties Committee meeting and we ordered Chinese.  Here’s what my fortune said:

You are a source of wisdom and strength to many people

Strange, I think I actually needed to hear that, as well as be a little freaked out by the fact that I did.  But that goes back to a conversation I recently had with a friend that I probably won’t be writting about here.  Well, for not at least.

Now though, you must watch this.  Ok, if you want to skip around, the really funny part is around the 2:30 mark.  Two words: Drunk.  Monkies.

Oh yes.

It’s just about that time of year again…

I’m farily certain I’m dong a horror book this time, somewhat inspired by the Abarat series.  Now I just need to figure it all out…

Homecoming this weekend, including the first annual Alumni of No Distinction Dinner.  I’ll post when I get back hopefully and in the meantime, I’m going to keep working my way through The Lost Symbol, as well as everything else I’m reading!

I meant to write up a post on Sunday, but quite frankly, I was even more exhausted than I thought I would be and promptly falling asleep after visiting Diana for her birthday.

Speaking of, for her birthday, we went to Rita’s. I have never been to a Rita’s before, and it was good, although I’m not sure if it is good enough to support all the hype I hear every year about it. I had a gelati, which is Italian ice sandwiched between custard. I made a root beer float with vanilla custard and root beer Italian ice, which worked out pretty well. I did promise Diana that we’d go to Charlie’s, the local soft-serve place before it closed since she has never been there.

Fishing Derby and Trailblazer were a lot of fun, and everyone seemed to have a really good time. I was in the kitchen for most of it washing dishes, but I was able to walk around a bit and even run the trading post for a while. Dinner was crazy and I never thought I’d make it through the pile of dirty trays, and by the time we were done, it was time to start cooking for cracker barrel, but that’s the fun of the kitchen. We had music going and I got to play in the bubbles, and we had a great time.

My boss has a wii, and plays Call of Duty, or at least has tried it for a little bit. That makes me happy.

Coming home from camp, I came via Rt. 66 and when I merged back onto Rt. 22 I was met with two giant billboards.  The first with a large picture of the sun with the line “Man made global warming, the big lie” and directly underneath it, one with an old white man shaking his fist, declaring that seniors will lose Medicare coverage and instead be encouraged to die.  Fun times!

I’m currently reading the new Dan Brown book, The Lost Symbol (look for a fun link in the next couple days once I find it again), so I’ve taken a short break from “Haunted.”  However, I didn’t realize it glowed in the dark, since up until now, I had it face down.  This is what I was staring at, glowing in the dark last night:

A bit unnerving to say the least.

I’m still fairly tired, allergies are in full swing, so I’m saving a bunch of links until I can think a bit better.  Until then, have a great one!

I’ll be back with a bigger update soon, but in the meantime, I couldn’t not post this:

Towards the beginning of the summer, Metblogs quietly launched a new site called the Global Conspiracy, looking at citizen journalism.  I was selected to be one of the writers, representing the Northeast.  And while I certainly hope the project will live on, for now at least, it is on hiatus.  If you’re interested in reading my writing, I’ve cross-posted it here as well.

If the GC ever comes back, I’ll let everyone know (and unpublish the posts here so as not to confuse people), but in case you want to check it out, here is the link to my articles.

Just a quick note, I updated to the latest version of Joomla. Everything is working per se, but a few things aren’t acting correct. I’m still working on them, hopefully I can fix the top banner and spell check next. Thanks for your patience!

Update: Still working on some issues.  But I think I fixed the banner at the top, although time will tell, we’ll have to see once caches refresh and whatnot.  Also, the galleries are not working at the moment, I’m working on that.  I enabled something I’ve been trying to get for a while, and now those don’t work…hehehe

Update 2: Galleries should be working again.  Still working on a few details, but I’m happy thus far.  More details in a bit!
