Today's Mighty Oak

Couple things for everyone, first up, happy day after the Rapture!

You’ve probably seen this already, but really, Santorum, what the crap?!  You honestly think McCain doesn’t understand torture?  My mind seriously can’t wrap itself around the stupidity of Santorum‘s thoughts.

And speaking of politics, here’s the official GOP bracket:

So, there are apparently porn parodies of everything.  However, one nerd took all the sex out, and it turns out Star Trek: The Next Generation porn is actually a pretty good episode.

Slog has an article up about MakerBot, the 3D home printer.  I just watched a podcast about this too, I can’t wait until this becomes cheaper and the technology advances.

Fun video:

Scientists may have found a new planet we can live on!  Awesome.

Points to Ginny for cracking the code as to why Pittsburgher’s brake unnecessarily:

BRAKE! Look! A tow truck. Let’s slow down in case a dozen children jump out of the truck and run into the road. It could happen.

That’s all I have for now, catch everyone later!

And I’m back, sorry for the time lapse between posts, work keeps me busy.  But in the meantime, I hope you enjoy:

If I had an iPad, I would download this app, it arranges your music like space!

Nerve has a great list of what the internet does best: summing up the killing of Osama bin Laden in gif format.  Check it out.  Also cool, his death made the NYT stop the presses.  That never happens, contrary to popular belief!

My friend Steve’s girlfriend, Mallory (who I did not know had a blog, but now I’m going to subscribe to it), has a fantastic post entitled “The Death of One.”  It’s worth a read, please check it out.

Apparently this is a urinal in Germany, specially coated with a thermochromatic paint.  The weirdest thing I think is the person taking the photo of two men peeing:

Go Nintendo has an awesome article up about the new Zelda game, Skyward Sword.  Watch the video, and then listen to the music, which has been extracted and then played backwards.  Absolutely amazing!

The streets of Paris are having their potholes filled in with yarn!  How awesome:

That’s it for now, but I’ll be back soon with more!

Quick update, I’ll probably have more later, but for now, enjoy!

First up, coffee shops are now getting into the Growler scene.  For those unaware, Growlers are used by microbreweries to sell and transport beer.  So now you can get 64 oz. of coffee at once.

The governor of Maine took down a mural because it showed the fight for worker’s rights and he doesn’t like that.  So now it’s a billboard:

Worried about socialism?  Stay way from West Virginia, and of course, Alaska.

Nerve has taken notice of the rash of ninja-related crimes happening in Pittsburgh.  God help us all.

George Takei is amazing.  In response to a bill in Tennessee which would make it illegal to discuss sexuality until high school (we had sex ed starting in fourth or fifth grade if I remember correctly).  So he’s taking matters into his own hands:

Remember kids, like I’ve said before, the more a politician rails against something, the more likely he or she is doing that thing.  This time: smoking pot.

That’s it for now, more soon!

One of my favorite books of all times, “The Magicians,” is getting a sequel that comes out this August.  The cover was just released, so now I’m really excited:

Okay, big update for everyone, so here we go.

First up, this comes from Slog, and is fantastic:

Two weeks ago in his column, Dan Savage eviscerates Maggie Gallagher.  It’s wonderful to read, check it out.

Video Games will now have their own category in the Grammy’s!  Thank goodness.  Baba Yetu won last year for best instrumental (I linked to it before, and it deserves it, it is such a good song, especially the duet version).

Betty Bowers, America’s Best Christian, is back!  And now she’s addressing the masses:

Catholic Vandals in France destroyed “Piss Christ.” I’m not familiar with the work, but apparently it’s quite famous.  They assaulted a guard and attacked the photo with an ice pick, which just sounds viscous.  It always makes me sad to see art destroyed.

A few months ago, Gawker redesigned their family of sites, and they are horrible to try to navigate now.  Here’s a graph of their traffic, can you guess when the redesign went live:

It’s nice to see the Democrats actually go on the offensive for once, and the ad is a lot of fun (if not sad):

Also in politics, remember the phrase that those who protest the loudest against [insert any cause] are usually actually personally involved in [cause].  See: Larry Craig, et al.  Well, the Tea Party member of the state congress of Montana who tried to removed all equality for LGBT citizens?  Yeah, she’s a lesbian.  When will politicians learn that this pattern is clear?

Want to see something fun and cute?  Check out Cute Roulette.  It’s like Chat Roulette, but with (presumably) no penises, just lots of baby animals!

You’ll have to excuse me while I laugh.  Considering he is the man who after a rant of anti-Semitic slurs called a cop “Sugar Tits,” Mel Gibson has the gall to say he has never treated anyone badly, and certainly not for their religion or gender!

That’s it for now, have a great one!

I’ll be back with more, hopefully later today, but maybe tomorrow.  In the meantime, enjoy my yearly tradition:

I forgot to add earlier, I participated in a NCAA bracket challenge through the Y, and for a while, was in first place!  I was so excited that I took a screenshot:

And as cool as that was, by the end, I dropped down to second (again, screenshot to follow, since I’m so excited).  As shown by the name of my bracket, I still have no idea what’s going on with NCAA basketball, but it was fun while it lasted!

The Target shows us how Boyd came to the Dollhouse.  Well, at least how we think he came to the Dollhouse.  It’s interesting, knowing what happens in season 2, how he first interacts with Echo as he is set up as her handler.

The “shoulder to the wheel” is of course corny and over the top, but serves to show that Echo is remembering.  Kind of dumb, yes, but these are the episodes when FOX was in charge, not Joss, so I guess we have to go with it.

And of course, more information comes forward about Alpha and his composite event.  It’s nice to see a story arc being put together at least with Alpha and Echo, even if the rest of these first episodes are just “monster of the week” episodes.

We also are introduced to Mellie for the first time in this episode, again, I was smiling, knowing what I do.  She’s one of my favorite characters, and her showing up with lasagna, waiting for Ballard, was always a highlight for me.

Smaller update today, but here’s what we got, hope you enjoy.

Huge news, URU is finally being released as open source!  I don’t quite understand how it all works, but I’m very excited that the community will finally get to sink it’s teeth into Age Writing (and everything that comes with it).

I”m really afraid of public protests, but I think I could hold this sign up, it’s smart, witty and makes an good argument:

Have you been following all the trouble surrounding Spiderman: Turn off the Dark?  George Takei is going to fix it all:

This is just amazing.  I now kind of want to go bread shopping!

BuzzFeed has the link to a survey of GOP voters from Mississippi.  I don’t think I can sigh enough:

A guy, for Lent, is doing a Monk-diet: only beer and water.  Follow his adventure here.

The new “Kingdom Tower” will be one mile high, twice the height of the Burj Khalifa.  A normal elevator would take 12 minutes to reach the top from the bottom.  And it was just given the go ahead to begin construction.  Crazy!  Take a look:

That’s it for now, catch everyone later!
