Today's Mighty Oak

Sooooooo, I’ve been incredibly sick as of late.  But, always looking for the silver lining, I learned what I’m allergic to by being prescribed a massive dose of it!  Yay!

So the CMS I use gave this article the same number as my college mailbox number, so exciting!  So anyway, here’s some fun things for you:

Here’s the “official” 140 character description of LOST:

Check out this cool ad, although I’m honestly more impressed with a cell phone in a wooden shell:

I saw this on my phone, and it’s not circulating around Facebook.  Mad Elf is amazing (and really high ABV), but I don’t know how much of a case Troegs’ has.  Guess we will see.

Zombies are now walking on the Wisconsin State Capital in protest of Scott Walker!  Check it out:

Listen, the first one of my friends who has kid around 6 or so (that’s just a guess), has to buy them this shirt:

No exceptions.

Well, this is infuriating.  Also, alarmingly scary that over 30 states have laws like this.

So up in Maine, the Republican governor was so incensed by a mural depicting the labor in his state, he had it removed (which I guess is now angering the people who put up the money for it, but that’s a legal battle for another day).  I think this is a fantastic way of protesting (it’s not a bad mural, although I’m not a huge fan of the colors used or art style, but hey, that’s not the point):

Infuriated by the police blaming the victim in sexual assault cases, in Toronto, a “Slut Walk” was organized, with over 2,000 people attending.

Copyranter wrote about a previous Hot Wheels installation, putting two giant kids on the side of the highway, watching the road like it was their track.  This one is better though, and it’s been picked up by a lot of sites:

The giant news that has overtaken my twitter and Facebook feeds is that the next Batman will be doing some filming here in Pittsburgh, probably in July.  Nerdist has a great article about the inevitable reboot that is set to happen after this third movie.  Go over and read “Reboot Rage.”

Also, did you know that there is a rise in the need of exorcists?  Who knew?  What can’t the Internet do?

Okay, story time!  First watch this video:

First, I have to mention that one of the comments on YouTube brings up a good question, what about pajamas?  But anyway, we had a group that was using the conference center that I was helping to get a quote and put together their permit for their stay.  They actually split off from another group that used the same facility because the original group decided that women were in fact allowed to wear pants.  As they were explaining their new name to me (so we could get all the paperwork straightened out), they were trying to pull me into the theological discussion.  I quickly left under the guise of putting their check in the safe and drawing up their permit.  Good gravy.

That’s it for now, hopefully I’ll continue to feel better, catch everybody later!

Compared to “Echo,” I think this was edited in a better manner and made for a better first episode, if a bit generic.  Like the other of the first five aired episodes, this one seems to follow a “monster of the week” type of story, with very little grand arc (aside from possibly Ballard, although I don’t think they quite knew what to do with him in this episode).

Also, who knew that Lady Gaga was playing in this episode?  I don’t think I really knew her music when this first aired, so on the rewatch, I was a bit amazed that she was playing at the party during Echo’s first engagement of the episode.

All in all a pretty good episode.  Much better ones are coming up, but we have to slog some crap to get there first.

Sorry for my absence as of late, I’ve been sick as a dog and trying to recover.  Here’s a couple quick things before I dive into some work I need to do this weekend.

Ummmm, Tiger.  You’re not helping yourself:

This is amazing, according to her own wishes, Elizabeth Taylor was late to her own funeral.  Awesome.

I’ve been told time and time again to read the Fire and Ice saga, which starts with “A Game of Thrones,” also being made into a mini-series on HBO.  However, this Better Book Title makes me think that maybe I shouldn’t read it:

What do $1,000 trash cans, the Strip District and Snoop Dogg have in common?  Ginny has the answer.

I have a really, really dark sense of humor.  So I can’t decide if this is the worst, or possibly the best product placement in the history of the world:

Thoughts?

In a cruel twist of fate that I totally saw coming (and so did everyone on the Internet), Duke Nukem Forever has once again been delayed.  For those unaware, the game was first announced in April…of 1997.

And in other video game news, the Kinect is being used to perform surgery.  Ok, not really surgery, but to scroll through digital information (a la Minority Report I think) to keep their hands sterile while looking at the images and information.  It’s also being used to make battle bots and help the blind navigate the world.  Awesome!

Okay, that’s it for now, catch everyone later!

A couple quick updates for everyone, then back to some work behind the scenes.  I’ve been playing around with Joomla 1.6, I’ll be migrating at some point, but have to figure everything out soon, so look for that probably in the fall or something.

Today’s sad but true picture:

Are you sick of Charlie Sheen?  Get rid of seeing any news about him with this browser extension!

If you haven’t seen it, make sure to check out this amazing post from Hyperbole and a Half about her two dogs.  It includes amazing drawings such as this:

I’m learning about nature…as narrated by Randall.  Here’s an example:

Thank you, Randall.

I posted an interesting chart before describing The Crown, the UK and all things associated.  Now here’s Europe:

The UK is going to release these stamps!  And they are awesome, including Merlin, Harry Potter, Narnia and Discworld.  Although now that I think about it, I”m shocked that Lord of the Rings is not represented:

The Good Men Project took on sexism, and it’s hysterical:

That’s it for now, but more to come soon.  Have a great one!

I’ll be writing down my thoughts about Joss Whedon’s “dollhouse,” as I rewatch both seasons.  There will probably be lots of spoilers, since I’ll be watching it as someone who has seen the entire series.  I’m not going to be looking at the show through any one lens, any specific type of criticism, just putting down some thoughts about each episode.

Echo is the unaired pilot for dollhouse.  A good chunk of the material that was presented was reused in later episodes.  It wasn’t a bad pilot, although when you compare it to what served as the first episode, it shows its weaknesses.

The first thing I noticed, was the imprint chair was different.  I’m glad they redesigned it, it looks much better, more sleek.  Also, Topher keeps repeating the phrase “man-friend” to Boyd.  More so than in later episodes, to the point where it was annoying.

I think the editing was better in this than what became the first episode.  Although a lot of this episode is hard to judge since large chunks of the plot were changed, making this episode apocryphal.

This episode is actually hard to write about, since it ends up not really fitting into the time line at all, since what happens turns out not to have.  Still good to watch nonetheless, but it’s better to start off with Ghost instead.

I’ll be back later, with a couple of things.  First, I’m rewatching the entirety of Dollhouse, I’ll be putting down some thoughts about each episode, just for funsies.  Also, I should be back later with another regular post, but I wanted to get some things put up here that I found here.

First up, here’s the debut trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword:

Speaking of, would you like to be a hero?  Here’s the Generic Legendary Hero Training Manual!

Ladies and Gentleman…this is how your man can become the man you wish he smelled like…or something like that:

I’ve never realized that there are signers at rock concerts.  But apparently, they have lots of problems with Bon Jovi and Lady Gaga, imagine that!

It was only a matter of time before this came around:

Disney is doing a new campaign, putting celebrities into iconic animated roles.  I like this one and the Ursula:

Alright, that’s it for now, but I’ll be back later with more, have a great one!

So, sometimes I forgot how much of a sucker I am for a good strings section.  With that in mind, I give you the latest video from the Goo Goo Dolls for “NotBroken”

Buzzfeed has amazing Charlie Sheen quotes with baby sloths (much like they did with kittens and Mel Gibson not too long ago), my favorite:

Check out this amazing article about why video games should have their own dedicated Grammy.  “Baba Yetu” is amazing, although the live duet version from VGL is even better:

Tim Burton is set to do a new Hunchback movie!  That remains my all time favorite Disney movie, and I’d actually really like to read the book, so I’m interested in this.

Check out this awesome idea for a new Scrabble set:

This kind of flew under the radar, but Nickelodeon is bringing back classic cartoons with new episodes!  So hoping for Ahh! Real Monsters!

And the internet memes continue for Christina:

That’s it for now, media heavy update, but I’ll be back again soon, have a great one!

I forgot to mention that we just passed the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda!  IGN has a cool feature up about it, so I guess I’ll have to go and finish Twilight Princess and Spirit Tracks!

First up, a couple social media updates.  First, the person responsible for the Red Cross’ twitter feed tweeted under that account, when he thought it was his personal account.  The result actually was a ton of people pledged to donate blood with some help from Dog Fish Beer.  Pretty cool to read about how a company dealt well with a faux pas.

And to follow up, Slog links to two maps: one here, the other here, to help you track the revolutions of the Middle East.

And here is the counter-argument about Twitter specifically not toppling governments:

I can’t tell if this is real or not, but this could only happen via the Internet:

Here is a great list of awesome flyers.  One of my favorites:

We went out last night for a friend’s birthday, and what has become somewhat of a tradition, there was a lot of Bacon on Dana’s fries.  So in honor of that, I give you this amazing chart.

Take a look at this, it’s really cool to watch.  I’m pretty sure I’ve seen an older version of this as a TED talk, but this is way cooler:

Have you played Angry Birds?  If so, check out the letters home from the Pigs, really funny!

And this is just cool, check it out:

BuzzFeed has an amazing infographic about Girl Scout Cookies that is just giant, so go check it out.  Also, I really miss the Lemon Coolers, they were great!

Okay, one more video:

Nah, I lied, here’s a new original from Funny or Die, the premise basically started in PA:

Daily Kos has an interesting article about Republicans and reproductive health

Okay, that’s it for now, but I’ll be back later with more, have a great one!
